This bench is made from a solid piece of figured Oregon big leaf maple.  The ends are Brazilian cherry dovetailed to the bench top to allow differential expansion and contraction with normal seasonal changes in humidity.  The legs were cut from this same piece of maple for a perfect grain match.  The trestle is a 40mm (1.75") thick piece of Brazilian cherry projecting through mortises in each leg.  The pegs holding the trestle are hand carved bloodwood.  This is a stunning example of a custom piece for a particular placement in the client's home, creating a really nice focal point.
